Quick answer
Complete Otto's crab-trap quest before using Jungle trap spots
Crab traps are not first unlocked in Utara. Progress the base game until Otto's Glacial Area crab-trap request awards the tool, then enter the Jungle from a save that carries that unlock.
Underwater, find a flat rock pile with visible movement, interact with it, add a fish as bait, and return after the trap timer has advanced to retrieve the catch.
Use a trap in the Jungle
Look for a low pile of rocks that visibly shifts or emits bubbles. The interaction prompt appears only at a real trap point. Add a spare fish, continue the dive, and return after the indicator shows that the trap is ready.
- Use common low-value fish as bait first.
- Mark the room so you can return before ending the dive.
- Do not expect a prompt at ordinary decorative rocks.
- A better bait is not a guarantee of one exact species.

FAQ
Crab Traps questions
Can Skip to Jungle unlock crab traps automatically?
The shortcut supplies a playable DLC state, but a normal completed save is the safest route when you want every base-game tool and upgrade you earned.
What bait should you use?
Use an expendable fish ingredient. Save rare or recipe-critical catches unless the quest specifically requests better bait.
