Underwater hunting remains the main method; a rod adds surface fishing

Dive with the Jungle Gun for most freshwater fish. Match its mode to the target: net mode for small live captures, rifle or shotgun for aggressive fish, and sniper mode for large threats.

Surface fishing unlocks through Basu's Piraiba Catfish request. It creates separate fishing spots and is useful between dives, but it does not replace underwater collection.

Choose one ingredient goal

Pin one recipe or request before entering the water so inventory space is not lost to low-value catches.

Clear the shallow band first

Search the Upper Lake edges, plant cover, and side chambers before descending. Red-Bellied Piranha and Pearl Gourami are shallow-zone targets.

Descend only for the next target

Use depth markers and landmark rooms instead of sweeping the entire map. Carry oxygen and ammo for predators that guard lower paths.

Bank high-quality fish

When your priority catch is secured, leave rather than risking it during an unrelated fight.

Improve catch quality and restaurant value

Live or minimally damaged catches usually produce better ingredient quality. Upgrade the appropriate Jungle Gun branch, carry enough weight for large fish, and avoid firing a lethal mode into a target intended for a net capture.

  • Reserve heavy ammunition for predators and boss-sized fish.

Is the fishing rod required to catch Jungle fish?

No. It unlocks an additional surface activity; normal underwater capture remains the primary way to collect freshwater fish.

Why can’t I find a fish listed in the same depth range?

Search the full horizontal zone and side chambers, then reload the area if necessary. Some targets use a limited spawn point rather than appearing throughout the depth band.
