How to Use the Jungle Hook

The hook is contextual, not a free-aim weapon: stand in the intended position and target a highlighted anchor before pressing the shown action.

Quick answer

Aim only at highlighted hook anchors

Equip or activate the hook when the story introduces it, then face the marked ring, branch, or anchor until the targeting cue changes. Press the on-screen interaction or tool button and hold the requested direction during the pull or swing.

If Dave attacks or uses another tool instead, reset the key binding conflict and make sure the anchor is inside range and unobstructed.

Use the hook step by step

Reach the story unlock

Continue the current Jungle objective until the hook tutorial and its target marker appear.

Face the anchor

Center Dave on the ring, branch, or marked object until the reticle confirms a valid target.

Press the contextual tool input

Use the button shown on your platform rather than the standard melee input.

Follow the movement cue

Hold or release the indicated direction to finish the pull, swing, or object movement.

Fix a hook that will not activate

  • Move slightly closer and face the anchor directly.
  • Wait for the reticle or prompt to confirm the target.
  • Complete the preceding story dialogue.
  • Restore default controls temporarily if melee or interact fires instead.
  • Leave and re-enter the room if the tutorial prompt disappeared after a reload.
